Degree Programs

Overview

The UTS Centre for Local Government is one of the few University units in Australia, indeed worldwide, that designs and presents programs that are tailor-made to the needs of local government. Our degree courses are developed after extensive local government consultations and are designed to make maximum benefit of the knowledge gained from the Centre's concurrent research and consultancy actvities.

It is our objective that our degree course graduates will be 'learned practitioners' - that is they will be practical and professional in their work and with the relevant skills and knowledge for them to perform effectively in local government. Hence, our courses provide the most up-to-date knowledge on local government, from Australia and around the world. Sessions are presented by expert practitioners who work, on a daily basis, in or with local councils. Programs are offered in an interactive workshop style, and students typically remark on the real benefits of shared learning with a group of local government colleagues.

Many of our degree courses offer various study patterns. Many subjects can also be taken as 'stand-alone' short courses, and flexible options for distance and workplace learning can be discussed with the Course Co-Ordinator on a case-by case basis. Completion of our current post-graduate degrees can also provide a pathway to further study.
