IPR Paper Released Integrated Planning and Reporting Paper Released
DEC 2012 | Through its Integrated Planning Capacity Building Program, the UTS: Centre for Local Government provided varying levels of assistance to 14 councils in metropolitan Sydney and regional centres and rural localities throughout NSW. This most recent addition to the newly named UTS: Local Government Papers Series documents learning and experience of supporting these councils in implementing Integrated Planning and Reporting in their organisations and outlines implications for practitioners and policy makers alike. read more>

NOV 2012 | The  Local Government eLearning Exchange (formerly 'eLearning Portal') is an online platform for local government training providers, council staff and practitioners to share their ideas, experiences and resources on eLearning.  The relaunched website provides an overview of tools and techniques, design considerations and challenges, a regularly updated list of local government e-learning programs and inititatives, and links to useful resources.  Link to Website>
Local Government LeadershipStudents Complete Graduate Certificate in Local Government Leadership in NT
NOV 2012 | Participants who completed the requirements of the first cohort of Graduate Certificate in Local Government Leadership students were acknowledged at the recent Local Government Association Northern Territory Conference (LGANT) on 8/9 November 2012. Penny Finlay, UTS: CLG’s representative and lecturer in Community Leadership, presented the framework of Local Government Leadership used in the course and congratulated the students on their hard work and focus throughout the year. read more>
Metropolitan Governance'Metropolitan Governance: Improving the Strategic Capacity of Australia's Cities' Report Released
NOV 2012 | SGS Economics and Planning in partnership with the UTS: Centre for Local Government (UTS:CLG) and the New South Wales Business Chamber held a roundtable discussion on how to improve metropolitan governance as a means to strengthening our cities’ strategic capacity. The report from the event captures some of the key themes and critical issues that were identified and highlights areas for further consideration. read more »
Workforce Planning WorkshopsWorkforce Planning Workshops held in WA 
OCT 2012 | Workforce planning is the focus of a series of training workshops held in WA to enable local governments to meet the requirements of the new Integrated Planning Framework. In partnership with ACELG and the Department for Local Government in WA, the UTS: Centre for Local Government has designed a two day workshop to strengthen local governments’ ability to carry out workforce planning. read more »

WA Workforce PlanningCommunity Leadership Workshop in Alice Springs
SEP 2012 | Students of the Graduate Certificate in Local Government Leadership met in Alice Springs on September 4th for a Community Leadership workshop hosted by Alice Springs Town Council and facilitated by UTS:CLG’s Penny Finlay. Participants from Darwin, Adelaide River, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs attended and presented their projects on subjects ranging from councils engaging with the community on recycling to Indigenous workplace training to planning for Anzac Day commemorations. read more »

AUG 2012 | The Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR), in collaboration with UTS:CLG, ACELG, and OSIPP (Osaka School of International Public Policy, Osaska University) held the 2012 CLAIR Forum at UTS on 17th August. The forum aimed to share recent experiences in both Japan and Australia on the topic, ‘Improving local government efficiency and performance’ and featured speakers from both countries. read more »

NOV 2009 | In 2008 the Centre was commissioned by the Forum of Federations to undertake the Australian component of a global research study into the Finance and Governance of Capital Cities in Federal Systems.
